Tesla Introduces Actually Smart Summon for Autonomous Parking
Tesla has introduced its latest autonomous feature, “Actually Smart Summon” (ASS), which enables Tesla vehicles to autonomously navigate parking lots and come directly to their owners or reach a specified location via a mobile app. This new iteration of the Smart Summon feature brings a significant upgrade in spatial awareness and vehicle control, making it easier for drivers to manage their cars remotely.

The system, available with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, allows users to choose between two modes: “Come to Me,” which summons the car to the user’s location, and “Go to Target,” where the car can autonomously drive to a specific destination. These features are controlled through the Tesla app, with real-time camera feed to monitor the car’s progress. However, Tesla stresses that drivers must remain vigilant and supervise the vehicle’s movements, as full autonomy is not yet achieved. This cautious approach is designed for use in parking lots or driveways, where potential hazards could still arise.
This new system is part of a broader effort by Tesla to push the boundaries of autonomous technology. Future improvements may include integration with garage systems like HomeLink, increasing the operational distance of the vehicle, and removing the need to hold a button for continuous control. As of now, while ASS adds convenience, users remain responsible for monitoring their car’s activities during the summon process.
Tesla’s ASS feature has been highly anticipated, as CEO Elon Musk previously teased its release over the past two years. Its launch marks a crucial step towards fully autonomous vehicles, promising to reduce the hassle of parking lot navigation for Tesla owners while moving closer to a future of self-driving cars.
