Halo Infinite Celebrates Halo 2’s 20th Anniversary with Operation Great Journey
On November 5, 2024, Halo Infinite will launch “Operation: Great Journey” to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Halo 2. The update includes a new 3rd-person gameplay mode, a first in the series, providing players with an entirely new perspective that shakes up the traditional Halo experience. This limited-time mode will be available in multiple playlists, such as “Third-Person Firefight” across various game types like King of the Hill and Gruntpocalypse Fiesta. Players can also explore this third-person view in custom games, further expanding the immersive experience.
Additionally, “Delta Arena,” a nostalgia-fueled playlist, brings back classic Halo 2 mechanics by eliminating sprint, restoring “floaty” jumps, and removing other modern enhancements. This mode aims to recreate the vintage gameplay feel, enhancing the anniversary celebration by letting players engage with classic maps like Midship and Lockout, which have been revamped in Forge mode.
Halo Infinite’s update marks a farewell from the current development team, as they prepare to shift focus to an upcoming Unreal Engine 5 project.
